- Anticipated Start Date: 1 July 2026
- Administer, implement, and develop Middlebury’s academic program in Brazil. The Director will work closely with the Dean of International Programs to make and implement short and long-range programmatic and strategic plans. The Director will be required to develop and manage key relationships in a cooperative, strategic manner.
- Compensation is commensurate with experience and will be determined through a discussion with the hiring manager.
Responsibilities will include
Core Responsibilities
- Directs the day-to-day operation of undergraduate study abroad program, managing academics, finances, staffing, and student services.
- Oversees academic program, including course management and record maintenance. Monitors' teaching effectiveness, grading standards, student progress, assessment, and placement.
- Responsible for various aspects of student life, including discipline, advising, housing arrangements, internships, orientations, excursions, and co-curricular activities. Also handles matters related to security, safety, health, discrimination, and harassment.
- Fosters trust and collaboration with diverse stakeholders. Develops and manages relationships strategically.
- Handles Middlebury's communication with academic institutions, government bodies, and other organizations. This involves meeting all local legal and other requirements for the program.
- Oversees business operations in Brazil, including budget, partner university and organization agreements, and staff management.
- The director may have teaching duties based on qualifications and program needs.
- Works with marketing staff at Middlebury to recruit students to the program. This may include visits to other U.S. colleges to meet faculty and study abroad administrators.
- Ph.D. in a relevant field, with excellent teaching skills.
- Experience in studying, teaching, and/or administering in both U.S. and Brazilian higher education systems.
- Teacher-training experience.
- Crisis management skills.
- Skilled in advising and collaborating with faculty and staff in both U.S. and Brazil settings.
- Shows a commitment to inclusiveness and diversity.
- Excellent communication skills in Portuguese and English.
- Candidates must have work authorization in Brazil.
Other
- This role requires the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, and be on-call for emergencies. It involves both office work and travel within Brazil, and occasionally, internationally. Offer is contingent upon successful completion of a criminal background check.
