- We are seeking a skilled Backend Engineer to design, build, and maintain high-performance backend services that power critical workflows and large-scale data operations. This role offers the opportunity to work on complex systems, develop robust APIs, and contribute to scalable architecture while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams. You will be responsible for ensuring reliability, efficiency, and maintainability across backend services, while actively participating in technical decision-making and process improvements. Accountabilities
- Design, develop, and maintain backend services and APIs using Python and frameworks like Django or FastAPI.
- Build and operate RESTful APIs with clear contracts for internal and external consumers.
- Model and optimize relational databases, primarily PostgreSQL, including queries, indexing, and performance tuning.
- Implement batch jobs and pipelines using AWS services such as S3, EC2, CloudWatch, and Batch.
- Develop event-driven components using Apache Pulsar, Kafka, or similar technologies.
- Design and deploy AI or MCP-based agents to automate internal operations and deliver measurable value.
- Ensure observability and reliability of services through metrics, logs, alerts, dashboards, and incident reduction practices.
- Apply feature flags, phased rollouts, and zero-downtime deployment practices for safe and frequent releases.
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Frontend Engineers, and other stakeholders to refine requirements, anticipate edge cases, and deliver high-quality solutions.
- 4–6+ years of experience as a Backend Engineer on production systems.
- Strong expertise in Python and Object-Oriented Programming principles.
- Proven experience with at least one Python backend framework (Django or FastAPI).
- Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and consuming RESTful APIs at scale.
- Solid knowledge of SQL and relational data modeling, preferably PostgreSQL.
- Practical experience with AWS services (S3, EC2, CloudWatch, Batch).
- Experience working with event brokers such as Apache Pulsar, Kafka, or equivalents.
- Familiarity with feature flags, phased rollouts, and zero-downtime deployment strategies.
- Experience building and deploying AI or MCP-based agents in production environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Professional proficiency in Spanish and ability to work in English technical contexts.
- Based in Colombia or Argentina.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Snowflake, complex data pipelines, ETL/ELT processes, or multi-cloud/hybrid architectures.
- Background in fintechs, marketplaces, consumer products, or large-scale engineering environments.
- Exposure to infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation).
