Job Post: Development of Scrollytelling Infographic in Mapbox GL JS We are looking for a highly skilled developer to build an interactive scrollytelling infographic using Mapbox GL JS. The project involves transforming a simple prototype into a fully functional visualization that combines data, design, and interactivity. Project details The infographic will include around 12 chapters (sections triggered by scroll). It will use 4 raster layers and 2–3 vector layers. You will need to configure these layers in Mapbox and develop the scrollytelling transitions. A basic prototype will be provided as a reference. The final product must be responsive (desktop and mobile) and optimized for smooth performance. Deliverables A working scrollytelling experience where scrolling triggers map transitions (zoom, pan, fly-to, layer changes). Integration of the 4 raster layers and 2–3 vector layers into Mapbox GL JS. Responsive layout with clear synchronization between text and map events. Clean and documented code, ready for deployment (e.g., Netlify or GitHub Pages). Skills required Proven experience with Mapbox GL JS (please share examples/portfolio). Strong front-end skills (JavaScript, HTML, CSS). Familiarity with libraries like scrollama.js or similar to implement scroll-driven events. Experience in data visualization, interactive storytelling, or journalism projects is a strong plus. Timeline Deadline: The final delivery must be ready by next Wednesday, October 1st. Given the short timeline, we are looking for someone who can start immediately and work efficiently. About us This project is developed by Ambiental Media (www.ambiental.media), an award-winning environmental journalism organization based in Brazil. Since 2016, Ambiental Media has produced impactful multimedia projects such as Aquazônia, Smoke Screen, Hyperdiversity, Cerrado and Rio 60°C. Our work has been recognized nationally and internationally for its innovative approach to science and data-driven storytelling. This scrollytelling infographic is the first public version of a larger project. Over the coming months, we will be developing expanded chapters, which will be published next year. We value clear communication, reliability, and collaborative problem-solving, and we are looking for a developer interested in helping us bring these narratives to life. If you have the right experience and can meet the deadline, we’d love to hear from you! Please include links to relevant projects you’ve built with Mapbox GL JS.
