We are a CPA firm looking for a reliable, detail-oriented contractor to help prepare and reconcile financial data for our year-end workflows. This role is great for bookkeepers or junior accountants who enjoy working with CSVs, spreadsheets, and bank reconciliations — but this is NOT traditional bookkeeping. No clients. No adjusting entries. No software cleanup. Just clean, structured data prep using Excel. RESPONSIBILITIES You will: • Import and clean financial CSVs (bank, credit card, GL exports) • Organize data in Excel using clear, step-by-step instructions • Reconcile transactions (running balance checks, Month-end and year-end tie-outs, spot missing transactions, duplicates, or unusual items) • Tag/categorize transactions where rules are simple • Confirm all periods/statements are present • Prepare a clean, consistent Excel package for our accounting team • Flag any discrepancies — you do NOT fix them (at least not at first.) REQUIREMENTS • Strong Excel skills (sorting/filtering, formulas, running totals) • Ability to understand how accounts should reconcile • Can identify mismatched balances or missing data • High attention to detail • Strong written English • Reliable and consistent workflow NICE TO HAVE'S • Experience reconciling bank or credit card accounts • Experience cleaning financial CSV exports • Familiarity with year-end workflows (not required) WHAT THIS ROLE IS NOT: To be clear, you don't need to deal with any of the usual bookkeeping headache stuff: • No full-cycle bookkeeping • No adjusting/journal entries • No QBO/Xero cleanup • No GST/HST/PST filings • No tax work • No client communication • No judgment calls You'll prepare perfect Excel files, ready for import into year-end workflows.
