A Gentil Carioca is a contemporary art gallery founded in 2003 by artists Márcio Botner, Ernesto Neto, and Laura Lima — a pioneering initiative in Brazil. Led by Márcio Botner and Elsa Ravazzolo Botner, the gallery is dedicated to being a space for thinking, experimenting, celebrating, and circulating art. With a mission to broaden and disseminate artistic diversity in Brazil and abroad, A Gentil believes in the transformative power of artworks as cultural expressions. Its spaces serve as hubs for encounters between artists, audiences, and ideas, strengthening a growing network of collectors and art enthusiasts. The gallery’s headquarters in Rio de Janeiro occupies two 1920s townhouses in the Historic Center, in the Saara district, known for its traditional open-air market and creative atmosphere. In 2021, the gallery expanded its activities by opening a new space in São Paulo, in the Higienópolis neighborhood, deepening its dialogue with the city’s vibrant art scene.
