If you succeed in this role, you will be viewed as a key engineering talent and a vital 'taste setter' for backend development. Specifically, you will have

• Pivotal Enhancements: Led the small but mighty web dev team in the delivery of many new Laravel.com experiences, that deliver significant improvements in converting traffic into revenue.
• Content Excellence: Built upon and substantially improved the management and maintainability of content- and copy-heavy aspects of our web and marketing efforts.
• Cross-Product Impact: Branched out from the web team to act as a key, senior contributor across our various products and engineering teams.
• Leadership & Collaboration: Hit the ground running with the Marketing team, embedding yourself as a critical partner (feeling just as much a part of Marketing as Engineering), and provided clear, low-touch leadership and reporting to the Engineering head.
• What You’ll Do
• Own the Backend & System Architecture for our website: Architect and implement the core Laravel backend, focusing on robust data models, API design, security, and scalability to support our slick design and overall traffic conversion efforts.
• Full Stack Feature Delivery: Take backend-leaning full stack features from idea to production, owning the entire stack from database schema and API endpoints (Laravel/PHP) through to the integration layer and light front-end components (Next.js/React).
• Conversion & Marketing Systems: Partner closely with Marketing to build and continuously improve the systems that drive business growth—optimizing for speed, conversion, and seamless content management.
• Integration and Contribution: Act as a critical resource, contributing your expertise across the full Laravel product portfolio, applying deep backend knowledge to solve complex system problems.
• Technical Taste Setter: Serve as a go-to expert for backend development questions, contributing to technical discovery, setting implementation standards, and driving the long-term technical vision.
• Elevate the Team: Mentor engineers across both full-stack and specialized teams, raising the bar for architectural quality, code maintainability, and security practices.
• Pragmatic Problem Solver: Ask critical product and UX questions, ensuring solutions are elegant, scalable, and genuinely solve the user's or business's need.
• What You’ll Bring
• 8+ years of experience building production-scale web applications, with a clear focus and deep expertise in Laravel, PHP, and modern backend architecture.
• Full Stack Fluency: Significant experience shaping the integration layer between a PHP backend and a modern JavaScript front-end (ideally Next.js/React), including building clean, resilient APIs (REST/GraphQL).
• Systems Thinking: Demonstrated experience in designing scalable component models, data-loading strategies, and API architectures that scale elegantly under high traffic.
• Business & Product Focus: Experience delivering features that directly impact key business metrics (e.g., conversion, revenue) and a keen interest in the "why" behind product decisions.
• Taste in Architecture: You care deeply about system elegance, data model integrity, performance, and developer experience.
• Collaboration and Ownership: A proactive mindset, comfortable partnering directly with designers, marketers, and product leaders to define, build, and own projects end-to-end.
• Bias for Action: A bias toward iteration: prototype fast, refine continuously, and ship without compromising on architectural quality.
