Sobre

  • Martelo is an early-stage, fast-moving startup redefining how data intelligence powers the U.S. construction industry. Our mission is to transform messy, fragmented property and permit data into clear, actionable insights that help manufacturers, contractors, architects, and specifiers make faster and smarter decisions. With our MVP, we’re building the foundation of a platform that turns blind spots into growth opportunities.
  • Here you’ll join a small but ambitious team that thrives on curiosity, resilience, and purpose. We are builders ourselves, crafting technology from the ground up, exploring, experimenting, iterating, and learning quickly. While our journey is just beginning, our vision is big: to create the leading data-intelligence platform for construction.
  • Your Title: Lead Data Engineer.
  • Your Location: Remote/Brazil HQ address - Nações Unidas 12901 - São Paulo - SP.
  • You Report To: Chief Tech Officer.
  • Your Schedule: Potential hybrid schedule requiring in-office presence two days per week at our São Paulo Office.
  • Your Compensation: BRL 30,000.00 - 33,000.00.

About the Opportunity

  • This is a unique chance to join Martelo at the ground floor of our journey. As Lead Data Engineer, you will help shape the core of our product and data platform. You’ll be hands-on with modern data engineering and cloud technologies, designing and building scalable pipelines, lakehouse architectures, and models that power insights. At the same time, you’ll play a key leadership role: setting technical standards, mentoring future team members, and collaborating directly with the founders on strategy and execution.
  • Because we are an early-stage startup, every decision you make will have a direct and visible impact on the company’s trajectory. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in fast-moving environments, loves solving complex data challenges, and wants the excitement of building both a platform and a company from the ground up.

What you will do

Your duties include, but are not limited to

  • Design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines to process large volumes of construction and property data.
  • Implement our lakehouse architecture (MVP phase) on top of modern cloud and open-source technologies.
  • Develop data models and transformations that turn raw, fragmented datasets AI-ready intelligence.
  • Lead efforts in data acquisition, scraping, and enrichment, applying AI to structure information from unstructured datasets.
  • Collaborate closely with data scientists and founders to define requirements and ensure data is optimized for experimentation, training, and production use.
  • Establish best practices for data quality, governance, and documentation, with automation and AI tooling at the core.
  • Lead technical decisions and set standards for the data engineering function.
  • Mentor and guide future data engineers, fostering a culture of experimentation, learning, and responsible AI usage.
  • Experiment, iterate, and move fast. Your work will directly shape Martelo’s product and impact the business.

What you bring

  • A builder’s mindset: you take ownership, thrive in ambiguity, and enjoy creating from the ground up.
  • Curiosity and problem-solving skills to explore how AI can make messy data usable and actionable.
  • Collaboration and openness: You value diverse perspectives and communicate well across teams.
  • A bias for action: you move fast, iterate, and learn quickly without losing focus on quality.
  • Professionalism paired with adaptability: you can set high standards while staying flexible in a startup environment.
  • A passion for impact: you want your work to matter, shaping a product and company with purpose.
  • Strong experience with data modeling, pipelines, and processing large-scale datasets.
  • Proficiency in SQL and programming languages commonly used in data engineering.
  • Knowledge of modern data architectures (data lakes, warehouses, or lakehouses).
  • Hands-on experience with data acquisition, scraping, or enrichment from multiple sources.
  • Familiarity with designing AI/ML data pipelines, including feature engineering and model-serving integrations.
  • Solid understanding of data quality, governance, and performance optimization, with an eye toward automation.
  • Comfort working in cloud environments and distributed data processing concepts.
  • Ability to set technical direction and evangelize the use of AI across the data engineering function.

Martelo Benefits

  • Competitive monthly compensation with real impact from day one.
  • Paid vacation, sick leave, and health support allowance, because taking care of yourself matters as much as building.
  • Local holidays off, so you can recharge with family and friends.
  • The chance to work with cutting-edge technologies and tackle data challenges no one has solved before.
  • A collaborative, inclusive, and diverse culture where every idea can shape the product and company.
  • Fast track professional growth. Learn, experiment, and build skills that will accelerate your career.
  • Join us early and be part of a startup adventure, where your contributions truly move the needle.
