Naval Architect Structural Subject Matter Expert Job Category: Engineering Time Type: Full time Minimum Clearance Required to Start: Secret Employee Type: Regular Percentage of Travel Required: Up to 10% Type of Travel: Continental US * * * The Opportunity: Ship structures SME role is a unique career opportunity to be part of a team of naval architects, structural engineers, and designers providing structural designs and solutions for US Navy and USCG ships. Opportunity to interface virtually and in-person with customers, in the Washington DC area, such as, MSC, NSWC, and NAVSEA. Responsibilities: Provide subject matter expertise in the area of ship structural design, materials, and analysis. Provide reviews of structural drawings and analysis in order to assist with improving safety, technical correctness, efficiency, and constructability of designs, and assist with researching and identifying applicable Rules/Codes/Standards and verifying contract compliance. Attend meetings and peer reviews of naval architecture related topics, and work across the Naval Engineering Team with engineers and designers with varying backgrounds and experience levels to help progress and add quality to deliverables. Assist with mentoring of junior, midlevel, and senior naval architects and structural engineers. Attend on-site meetings at CACI or customer offices, when necessary. Interface with customers, vendors, and shipyards. Qualifications: Required: Advanced degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Civil Engineering, Ocean Engineering, or related field. Minimum of 10 years of experience in the field of naval engineering/naval architecture/marine engineering/offshore engineering with a focus in ship structures. Knowledge of Rules/Codes/standards applicable to ship structural design. Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Detail-oriented and able to work in fast-paced work environment. Strong organizational, interpersonal, and leadership skills. Ability to speak and write clearly in English. U.S. Citizenship. Security clearance eligibility. Desired: Experience reviewing finite element analysis of whole ship models and models of equipment foundations and other ship structures. Experience with mooring system design and analysis. Knowledge of Navy Rules practices/standards pertaining to material selection, structural design and analysis, and ship repair methods. Knowledge of inspection techniques for assessing corrosion, cracks, or other structural damage/deterioration. Knowledge of technologies and strategies for structural health monitoring.
